Little Adventures

Starting a new term with fresh eyes for me meant reflecting on changes I would like to make. I decided that what I really wanted out of the next 3 months of university was to make the most of my time and being in the environment that I am in. With that in mind, I decided that I should try and say yes to more. Last term I found myself falling into that ever familiar pattern of making up excuses to get out of things, and ultimately ending up in a bit of a rut of winter hibernation, so I wanted to try and ensure that the same pattern wouldn't repeat itself.

Last night, after making the decision to have a relatively quiet night on campus my friend proposed at 12pm that we instead jump on a bus and head into town. Immediately I was filled with apprehension and thoughts of snuggling up in bed with a film but instead I decided to put my new aim into practice. The decision was made that it would be a test run - if the night was successful then my new motto would be put in place.

A night spent dancing into the early hours of the morning before stumbling back to an eagerly awaiting bed at 5am meant that any apprehensions I had completely dissolved. Put into practice, my new approach had undoubtedly succeeded and so I am left with a term in front of me which will hopefully be far more proactive than hiding from the cold in my room.

Today has been equally filled with little adventures as I once again took onboard my yes mentality and (despite the not so friendly hangover) found myself on a countryside walk. What we are blessed with is that our campus finds itself right in the centre of the South Downs, encompassed by rolling hills. After a five minute walk you find yourself forgetting that there could be any sign of civilisation around.

As I found myself breathing in fresh country air I felt all signs of the night before disappear. What I'm left with is the satisfaction that no matter how good a night out may be, there is nothing quite like getting lost in nature at dusk with nothing but the sound of the wind in the trees. Here I am calm and can feel grateful for how it is the little things that make everyday so worthwhile. Tonight we head out into town to find more little adventures to share with you, I hope that everyone else has a wonderful time discovering their own too.
